American Links to Nobility

The Presidents of the United States have a higher proportion of members descendant from European nobility than British Prime Ministers. I speculate that this is because most prominent US families are descendant from non-inheriting noble offspring who invested in plantation slavery in pre-independence America, and used those profits to maintain material advantages since abolition. The US flag is remarkably similar to the family crest of the Washingtons, but in fact the US Flag was inspired by the East India Company flag, an organization that was making similar complaints about British governance. Though the Spencers are cousins of the Washingtons, creating a link to the Churchills, the Dormers are  descended from the Washington family name, which the Spencers are not.
